Educational support is an integral part of students’ comprehensive education, helping every student to be assisted on his or her authentic learning path. Saulės Gojus has a team of educational support professionals – a special educator, a psychologist, a speech and language therapist and a social educator – who help children overcome a wide range of learning, emotional and social challenges.
The special educator works with students who face learning challenges. He or she assesses the nature and extent of their difficulties, provides guidance to teachers, and conducts individual or group sessions for children with special educational needs. He advises teachers on adapting the curriculum and teaching materials to the individual needs of the student, as well as provides guidance to teachers and parents on the students’ education and their specific needs.
The school psychologist plays an important role in the school, helping students, teachers and parents to deal with students’ emotional, social and educational problems. The school psychologist advises parents and teachers and provides support to the school community in the event of a crisis situation. This specialist supports students experiencing bullying or family problems. In addition, the school psychologist participates in the development and implementation of bullying and violence prevention programmes, and contributes to the school’s efforts to create a supportive emotional environment.
The speech and language therapist helps students with speech and language difficulties strenghten their language skills and cope with communication difficulties. He or she teaches children how to pronounce sounds correctly, form words, and express their thoughts fluently. This specialist supports children with dyslexia, dysgraphia or other learning disabilities, and develops tailored tasks and techniques to help them overcome various language barriers and successfully engage in the educational process.
The social pedagogue looks after the social well-being of students and contributes to a safe and inclusive learning environment. He or she helps students to tackle social, emotional and behavioural problems and teachers to identify and solve them, mediates conflicts, provides guidance on how to deal with students with behavioural problems, implements programmes to prevent bullying and violence, and cooperates with the authorities when the student’s well-being is at risk.
Thanks to the help of these professionals, the school maintains a positive learning environment where students feel safe, confident and motivated to achieve personal and academic success. Their full support and successful integration into the school community not only helps them to overcome existing challenges, but also develops their emotional and psychological resilience, independence and the ability to face challenges in future.
